Commentary to Quality Improvement Case Series: Peri-Implant Fracture After Distal Femur Percutaneous Epiphysiodesis Using Transphyseal Screws

چکیده
In this manuscript, experts in limb deformity correction provide commentary on outcome and complications following growth arrest for length discrepancy treated with percutaneous epiphyseal transphyseal screws. Strategies to prevent the rare iatrogenic fracture that is presented are discussed other methods of performing suggested consideration.

Percutaneous epiphysiodesis using transphyseal screws for limb-length discrepancies: high variability among growth predictor models
PURPOSE Percutaneous epiphysiodesis using transphyseal screws (PETS) was developed as a minimally invasive outpatient procedure to address limb-length discrepancy (LLD) that allowed immediate postoperative weight bearing and was potentially reversible by removing the screws. The aims of our study were to report our results using PETS for LLD and evaluate the accuracy of three growth predictor m...
متن کاملTransphyseal bioabsorbable screws cause temporary growth retardation in rabbit femur.
A self-reinforced bioabsorbable poly-L-lactide/polyglycolide (SR-PLGA) 80/20 screw 2.0 mm in diameter was implanted transphyseally across the distal growth plate of the right femur in 24 immature rabbits. Radiologic evaluation revealed a mean shortening of 3.1 mm at 3 weeks, 11.1 mm at 6 weeks, 9.3 mm at 24 weeks, 9.0 mm at 48 weeks, and 12.6 mm at 72 weeks compared with the intact contralatera...
متن کاملIs Distal Femur Locking Plate a Superior Implant in Distal Femur Fracture?
In spite of advances in techniques and improvements in surgical implants, confusion still prevails regarding use of specific implants in distal femur fracture. Fractures in the distal femur have posed considerable therapeutic challenges throughout the history of fracture treatment. Most of these surgical failures were due to inadequate fixation of the fracture fragments. The Aim of the study is...
متن کاملA Case of Distal Femur Medial Condyle Hoffa Type II(C) Fracture Treated with Headless Screws
Coronal plane fractures of the distal femur are less frequent compared to sagittal plane fractures. They were described by Hoffa in 1904 and are known as Hoffa fractures (AO type B3). They are isolated fractures of the femoral condyle and rare in occurrence. The objective in the treatment of these fractures is to achieve anatomical reduction of the articular surface and a stable fixation to pre...
متن کاملPeri-Implant Fractures Distal to an Antegrade Femoral Nail: A Case Series
Peri-implant fractures distal to an antegrade femoral nail are uncommon injuries, with no current consensus on the best treatment modality. We are presenting three cases of periimplant fractures distal to an antegrade femoral nail. All patients sustained an initial traumatic injury, which was managed with an antegrade femoral nail fixation. They subsequently suffer a second injury which causes ...
